The Zoology Department of Jogamaya Devi College, Kolkata started its journey in 1973. Since its inception, the never-ending zest and unconquerable enthusiasm to attain perfection of both the faculty and the students made the department one of the best in academic activity in the college. The proficient assistance and the heartfelt effort of the current vibrant faculty members have enabled the Department to flourish and breed into its present inflated stature, whose one among many recent achievements include the 1^st class 1^st position in the University of Calcutta UG final examination by Saptaparni De in 2017.The Department boasts of its past and present experienced and enterprising teachers.  Among its eminent former faculty, the department is proud to acknowledge Dr. Ashok Kr. Boral, who wrote various books including the famous ‘Mammalian Endocrinology’ for Zoology Honours Students. He was the coordinator of the Post-Graduate Distance Education program in Zoology (under Vidyasagar University). Dr. Debjani Dutta, currently the Principal of Budge Budge College was a Calcutta University Gold Medalist and a student of this college. The present faculty members are also involved in research and publication in referred journals. Department has encouraged students to participate actively in various seminars throughout the year. With a focus on the employability of the students and enhancement of their knowledge, the department imparts to its students quality education and best in class research environment.
