The department of History since its inception in the 1930s has made concerted efforts to impart quality education to students.The department with its dedicated faculty members tries to formulate a holistic approach in the studying of history . The main aim is to inculcate in the students unbiased approach towards the subject and help them to relate developments in the past for the better understanding of the present and the future. It  is also the department's goal to strive towards the all-round development of the students and hone their interpersonal and professional skills so that they come out as winners in both their personal and professional lives.The department is also proud to name among its alumni luminaries in various walks of life -- from Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal Sm Mamta Banerjee to eminent actors like Satabdi Roy.
