The Department is proud to have an erudite faculty and alumni well established in reputed institutions all over the world. Along with undergraduate teaching, the faculty members, Dr. Ruma Basu, Dr. Ballari Chakrabarti, Dr. Madhumita Basu, Dr. Amar Nath Sil (Head of the Dept.), Dr. Amrita Mukherjee and Smt Purbasha Haldar are actively engaged in pioneering research in collaboration with different universities and research institutes under DST, UGC, DRDO, DAE-BRNS and CSIR sponsored research projects. Dr. Ruma Basu has supervised the Ph.D work of eight scholars and Dr. Ballari Chakrabarti has supervised the Ph.D work of five scholars. The number of research publications of the faculty members is 45 during last five years. Profound retired teachers like Smt. Ratna Mukherjee, Smt. Manjula Roychowdhury, Dr. Madhuri Das, Smt. Santa Mukherjee, Dr. Malabika Sengupta, Dr. Soumya Sankar Mitra and Dr. Tilokesh Majumdar enrich our department till date by their valuable suggestions and participation in various departmental activities. The friendly atmosphere of our department encourages students to develop deep knowledge in the subject. In addition to the introductory physics lab, the department has several dedicated labs for advanced physics courses and projects. The departmental library gives easy and instant access of the books to the students. The department organizes seminars regularly where eminent researchers from other institutes deliver lectures on different current topics. All students enthusiastically take part in ‘students seminar’ and peer group teaching. ICT method of teaching is being opted in some classes. Most of the pass-out students pursue post-graduation courses in different Universities, IITs and NITs in India. Some graduates from this department are placed in good positions in reputed IT companies through campus interviews held in their third year.
